Commander of Rbaf conferred as honorary SFR member

WITH the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF has been conferred as an honorary member of the Special Force Regiment (SFR) on the occasion of the SFR RBAF 40th anniversary at the Special Force Regiment Camp, Penanjong Garrison, Tutong.
The SFR Insignia, Maroon Beret and the Commando Dagger were presented by the Commanding Officer SFR RBAF to Commander of the RBAF.
Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih is the first Commander of the RBAF to be honoured with the SFR’s honorary membership due to his exemplary leadership, professionalism and contributions which enabled SFR to be recognised as the state’s elite force in defending Brunei Darussalam.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the RBAF is the Royal Honorary Member of the RBAF Special Forces.
The Royal Honorary members of the SFR RBAF also include His Majesty King Abdullah II Al-Husein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 2006 and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and General of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 2013, which were previously presented by His Majesty.

The SFR is an elite unit in the RBAF with highly trained and special equipped personnel to conduct clandestine operations, counter terrorist operations and other special operations with various means of insertion via land, sea or air.
The ceremony began with the participation of the RBAF Commander in a hostage rescue training mission, whereby an assault and close quarters battle in a mock building was conducted in order to neutralise the terrorists and rescue the hostages.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of the new SFR Regimental Flag by Commander of the RBAF to the Commanding Officer SFR in conjunction with the occasion of the 40th year of the formation of the SFR in the RBAF.
The ceremony was witnessed by service commanders of the RBAF, military directors within the Ministry of Defence, Commandant of the Training Institution RBAF and members of the SFR RBAF.
