TOP military officials yesterday had a first-hand look at two British Royal Air Forces’ (RAF) Typhoon Eurofighters that are making a stop in Brunei Darussalam following the combat aircraft’s recent participation in military exercises in Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The two jetfighters from RAF’s II (Army Cooperation) Squadron that were parked at the tarmac of at the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) Base in Kampong Rimba were also deployed with six other Typhoon Eurofighters at the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Exercise Bersama Lima last month in Malaysia. Four of the jetfighters later went on to take part in exercises in Japan and Korea.

Also joining them was David Ian Campbell, the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
Wing Commander Roger Elliot from the RAF was on hand to brief the RBAF Commander and other senior military officials on the capabilities of the highly agile combat aircraft, said to be the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft that can provide simultaneous deployable Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface capabilities.

According to the British High Commissioner, the visit reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s strong and warm relationship with Brunei and the UK’s commitment to the bilateral Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (1979), as well as demonstrating the importance of its engagement and commitment in ensuring the stability of the Asia-Pacific region, which is one of its important trade partners.
The high commissioner also said the deployment of the Typhoon Eurofighters reflected the UK’s continuing commitment to the FPDA, deepening relationships and conducting exercises with close partners in the region.
Such deployments also provide a tangible demonstration of the UK’s support and commitment to regional stability.
Following the visit here, the two Typhoon Eurofighters will make Singapore their next stop.
