RBAF wins international warrior competition

THE Rejimen Pasukan Khas (RPK) Team 1, representing the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and Brunei Darussalam, emerged as champions in the 11th Annual Warrior Competition (AWC) 2019 at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center (KASOTC) in Amman, Jordan.
The RPK Team 2 also attained the overall second runner-up position for the competition. The representatives of the RPK teams comprised two officers and 12 enlisted personnel from the Elite Unit of the RBAF.
The AWC is an annual competition hosted by the Jordan Armed Forces that brings together elite special forces, military and law enforcement units from all over the world. The competition is specifically tailored to challenge, enhance and hone the abilities of the competing teams.
The competition highlights individual skills of the team members and their abilities to work together to plan and execute the hardest, yet, most realistic and challenging tasks and scenarios the units may face.
It is also a platform for the teams to exchange experiences and knowledge of the latest tactics, and foster international cooperation and fraternal  relations in the field of Special Operations and Counter Terrorism.

This year’s competition consisted of five days of eight gruelling competitive events to test their shooting and physical abilities, and endurance in simulating real conditions. AWC 2019 was participated by 37 teams from 24 countries, culminating in the King’s Challenge where only the top 15 teams were qualified to participate.
The final result of the competition, announced during the closing ceremony last Saturday, placed RPK Team 1 as champions, Jordan’s Royal Guards as first runner-up and RPK Team 2 as second runner-up.
Brunei Darussalam, represented by the RPK teams, were the only participants from the Asia-Pacific region for this year’s competition.
This year is the 6th time RPK had participated in the competition.
Its participation in AWC highlights that the capabilities of the small, but highly capable elite unit within the RBAF is comparable to other elite special forces units around the world.
