HM Oversees Perisai Kebangsaan Exercise

BRUNEI-MUARA: All hell broke loose when a plane crashed at the Panchor National Housing Scheme in Mengkubau. The chaotic scenario was simulated during the national drill “Perisai Kebangsaan” involving major security agencies and government departments, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday consented to visit a number of operational centres and toured the sites during the exercise.
On arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office as the Chairman of the National Security Committee; Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Laila Raja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs as a member of the National Security Committee; Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar, the Permanent Secretary (of Security and Enforcement) at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The event began with a Doa Selamat read by Awang Haris bin Haji Suboh, a Senior Religious Officer at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
His Majesty was briefed by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Head of Secretariat of the National Security Committee.
The Monarch also toured some of the major facilities such as the State Control Centre, the Emergency Preparedness and Response Room, the Law Enforcement Coordinating Centre and the Maritime Security Working Committee Operations Room.
At the State Control Centre of the Police Headquarters in Gadong, His Majesty was greeted by Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The objective of the exercise is to assess the overall capability of the agencies in tackling a national crisis.
The Monarch proceeded to the Emergency Preparedness and Response Room (EPAR) of the Air Traffic Service Centre. Here, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Minister of Communications; Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Bahrin bin Mohd Noor, the Commissioner of Police as the Chairman of the Emergency Operations Centre; and Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications.
The next stop of the tour was the Coordinating Centre at the Civil Aviation Department (DCA).
His Majesty also took a closer look at the Media Centre at the Brunei International Airport Terminal. The Media Centre was established to handle the crises.
The next stop was the Crisis Management Centre at the Royal Brunei Airlines Training Centre at Jalan Kustin. Here, His Majesty was briefed by Dermot Mannion, the Deputy Chairman of Royal Brunei; and Captain Khalidkhan bin Haji Asmakhan, the Royal Brunei Crisis Director.
The Monarch also visited the Family Assistance and Support Team Command Centre, Media Centre and the Family-Friends Call Centre.
His Majesty’s next destination was the Panchor National Housing in Mukim Mentiri. On arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the Colonel Haji Abidin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, the Commandant of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Training Institute as the Co-Head of the Exercise Secretariat; Awang Haji Ali Rahim bin Abdul Rahman, the Senior Special Duties Officer at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, the Royal Brunei Head of Safety, Security and the Environment.
The housing scheme in Mentiri was one of the areas involved in the National Exercise “Perisai” 2015 in providing a comprehensive test of arrangements in responding to a range of different scenarios.
The three-day drill is organise by the National Security Committee in ensuring Brunei Darussalam is ready and prepared in managing any form of emergency. These include familiarising all agencies with the national contingency plans and procedures, enhancing decision-making capabilities in time of crises, and assessing the effectiveness of the national structure, plans, procedures and capabilities.
