His Majesty graces Sovereign’s Parade for Officer Cadets of 14th Intake

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) consented to grace the Sovereign’s Parade Ceremony for the Officer Cadets of the 14th Intake held at the parade square of the new Defence Academy RBAF in Kampong Tanah Jambu.
Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
This was the first time a Sovereign’s Parade was held at the new academy in Kampung Tanah Jambu.
The arrival of His Majesty was greeted by the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah. Shortly after arrival, His Majesty consented to receive the royal salute and inspect the guard of honour parade commanded by Lieutenant (U) Haji Muhammad Adif bin Haji Zaman.
The ceremony proceeded with the march past before His Majesty consented to deliver the titah and then granted awards to the Best Officer Cadet in each course of the 14th Intake. Receiving the award of ‘Sword of Honour’ was 51319 Officer Cadet Muhammad Farasul Wa’ie bin Wadi, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) holder in Historical Studies from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
The Sword of Honour is the highest award bestowed to an Officer Cadet by His Majesty and signifies the pillar of utmost brilliance for the Officer Cadet who has the highest achievements in basic military training, academic, physical and in all aspects of phase two training.

His Majesty then consented to present the Best Academic Award to 51313 Officer Cadet Muhamad Afandi bin Juna who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology from Bangor University, United Kingdom.
Officer Cadet Muhamad Afandi received the award based on the overall progressive academic results throughout the course.
The Best Military Skills Award was presented to 51322 Officer Cadet (U) Muhammad Khairi Zulfitri Hafizuddin bin Zulkapli who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chemistry from University of Leicester, United Kingdom. The conferment of this award is based on his excellent achievements in all areas of military skills.
While the Best in Physical Training is 51314 Officer Cadet Muhammad Ihya’uddin bin Haji Ishak, who holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Tourism Management, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Malaysia.
The award recognises the excellence performance of the officer cadet in physical training.
A total of 34 Officer Cadets were commissioned yesterday where 17 Officer Cadets were commissioned as Royal Brunei Land Forces officers, eight Officer Cadets were commissioned as Royal Brunei Navy officers and nine Officer Cadets were commissioned as Royal Brunei Air Force officers.
The commissioning included an Officer Cadet with a holder in Doctorate in Medicine and two Officer Cadets were graduates of Doctor of Dentistry.
The ceremony continued with three chants of ‘Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik’ from the guard of honour parade followed by a Doa read by Assistant Head of RBAF Religious Department (JA’MAAT), Captain Ariffin bin Amit.
His Majesty then proceeded to the Ceremonial Hall for the official opening of the new Defence Academy RBAF. Previously, Defence Academy RBAF was placed temporarily at the Sungai Akar Camp.
The construction of the new Defence Academy RBAF started in early 2013 and it is a project under the 10th National Development Plan.
Among the objectives of the Defence Academy RBAF is planning, managing and meeting the training needs of RBAF Officers in a systematic way, establishing a positive learning experience for all students at the Defence Academy, promoting the Defence Academy overseas as well as to strengthen ties with other defence academies and plan official accreditation to all students of the Defence Academy.
The ceremony continued with light refreshment followed by a ‘Junjung Ziarah’ from the newly commissioned Officer Cadets with their families to His Majesty. His Majesty also consented to receive a ‘pesambah’ entitled ‘Nur Ukhuwah’ which means light of unity.
His Majesty also consented to sign a commemorative royal parchment and the newly commissioned Officer Cadet Book of Journey. Prior to leaving the ceremony, His Majesty consented to receive another ‘Junjung Ziarah’ from instructors, officers of the Officer Cadet School, some military officers from friendly countries and also all officers whom were recipients of the ‘Sword of Honour’ award from the first intake until the 13th intake. Prior to departing the Defence Academy RBAF, His Majesty also consented to a group photo session.
The 52-week Officer Cadet training course of the 14th Intake started on May 8, 2015 which involved a variety of exercises and military activities dedicated to improving the quality of leadership, character and intellect as required for each officer of the RBAF. In addition, high spiritual qualities continue to be instilled to produce a competent and visionary officer in the RBAF.
