Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major
General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih Abdullah yesterday witnessed the
land component of the Counter-Terrorism (CT) simulations in Singapore.
According to a Ministry of Defence (MinDef) press release, the CT simulations are part of the second phase of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism (ADMM-Plus MS & CT) Exercise.
Yesterday’s exercise saw a “land-storming” operation conducted at Singapore’s Serimbun Village.
The current phase of the multinational exercise has two parts in its CT simulations, the sea component and the land component.
During the “land storming” operation, a combined assault was carried out against SEARA, a fictional terrorist organisation.
“Intelligence provided by the CT task Group helped facilitate the successful counter operation by the CT Task Force (CTTF),” read the statement.
Meanwhile, the sea component of the CT operation was completed on Sunday, May 8 which saw a scenario involving a seize and control of a hijacked merchant vessel as well as a hostage rescue situation from SEARA.
The scenario concluded with a “sea storming” operation by the Special Forces Task Group.
The statement added that the CT phase of the exercise was built upon the successful conclusions of the first phase of the ADMM-Plus MS & CT Exercise held last week, May 5 - 8 in Brunei which centred on maritime security.
