BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE Brunei Historical Society (PESEBAR) has met and continues to meet its commitments with regards to promoting Brunei’s history, thus fulfilling the trust reposed in it by the late Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien.

Speaking to The Brunei Times ahead of PESEBAR’s sixth general meeting on Sunday at the Brunei History Centre’s Jawatan Dalam Hall, the society’s honorary secretary, Associate Professor Madya Dr Hj Awang Asbol Hj Mail and Assistant Honorary Secretary Dr Hj Muhammad Hadi Mohd Melayong said that among PESEBAR’s major contributions was the production of a book titled Memories on the Achievement of Brunei Darussalam 25th Independence. In 2011, it organised an international seminar on Brunei History at Universiti Brunei Darusssalam to mark the golden jubilee anniversary of the 1959 Brunei Constitution.

They explained PESEBAR’s efforts served to uphold a sabda made by the late monarch who officiated at PESEBAR’s first ever general meeting in May 1984.

They added that Sultan Hj Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, at that point in time, said that the society should serve to attract more interest in the country’s history, culture and traditions.

Meanwhile Prof Madya Dr Hj Awang Asbol said that those interested in joining PESEBAR can do so as registration forms will be provided at the meeting.

Lifetime membership for adults is priced at $10, while students can get it at $5.

PESEBAR was established on April 24, 1983 and was registered on February 8, 1984. It now had a membership of around 430 members.
